Joshua Grynbaum Week 7: The Melodic Blue Deluxe Review

After working on a song analysis for Baby Keem’s song "16", I decided to give the rest of the album a listen, and I can assure you that it was worth it. Recently the original “The Melodic Blue” received a deluxe album, adding ten additional songs, totaling up to 26 songs. The 16 original songs in “The Melodic Blue” included many talented pieces by not only Baby Keem, but features by Kendrick Lamar, Don Toliver, and Travis Scott. The inclusion of these artists really contributed to the success of this album. A few of my favorite songs from the original album include “Trademark USA”, “Lost Souls”, “Family Ties”, “Durag Activity”, and the one and the only, “16”. These songs, in addition to the other pieces, made “The Melodic Blue” such a great and successful album, but the addition of the “deluxe” version enhanced its success.

“The Melodic Blue Deluxe” included not only features on songs from the original but also many new hits. The first song on the deluxe track was a feature by Brent Faiyaz on the popular “Lost Souls.” This feature not only enhanced the original song but also served as a perfect lead to the rest of the songs. A few of my “deluxe” favorites include “Killstreaks” feat. Don Toliver & PinkPantheress, “Fine China”, and “Bank Account” feat. Lil Uzi Vert. These songs really match the same video as the original album did, but complement them in a way that improves both albums. Although I do love the new “deluxe” album and all the talented pieces it brought with it, I still think the original “The Melodic Blue” remains on top.

  1. I haven't checked out the deluxe yet, however I absolutely loved the original album, I had it on repeat when it just dropped.
