Let the Games Begin!

It is officially DKJA basketball season! This week is the first week of practice. The team is focusing primarily on conditioning as we are all out of shape from the offseason. The coaches work us super hard, making us do all kinds of cardio exercises. By the end of the week, we should be in better shape to begin to learn plays. We have just under three weeks to learn new skills and plays before our first game. Our head coach, Eric, has put the team under ball-handling, shooting, and defensive drills. The team has lots of sharpening up to do before our games start, so Coach Eric must work us hard.

Ever since covid hit, DKJA has taken its basketball program to the next level. The basketball team has two coaches who are very knowledgeable in the game. The school also got lots of new equipment, such as basketballs, pennies, and a shooting machine! As a guard, I love practicing my shots with the shooting machine. The shooting machine goes under the basketball hoop and has a big net attached to the top. As soon as the shooter takes a shot, the shooting machine catches the ball in the net and drops it into a shooter, which then passes it back to them. It is so fun to use and saves the shooters on the team lots of energy as we don't have to chase after our misses anymore!

This season has just begun and is super fun already. Playing basketball with my friends is a great way to detach yourself from a long day at school. I can't wait to continue to get better and win this year!

Are you on a sports team this year and if so which one?
