Johny Week 9: Better Call Saul Review
Making a spin-off series work is difficult in and of itself, but when it is the spin-off of probably the greatest TV series of our generation, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould had set themselves nearly impossible criteria to match. However, with “Breaking Bad” being my favorite TV show of all time, my expectations for “Better Call Saul” were still through the roof. Saul Goodman had one of the most interesting personalities in Breaking Bad, and going into his past to see how he became the person he is had me extremely excited. The show met every one of those expectations, and if anything surpassed them. It was made with absolute perfection and left me wondering if Breaking Bad was still my favorite show. Each season just got better and better, showing the development of Jimmy McGill to becoming the infamous Saul Goodman. Jimmy became a lawyer because he aspired to be like his brother, Chuck McGill. Chuck was a very educated man and an extremely successful lawyer, holding his own firm known as “HHM.” However, Jimmy had always been known as “slippin' Jimmy,” where he was seen as the disappointment of the family. He was always a people pleaser with a tremendous amount of energy, but he could never figure himself out. Once Jimmy decides to become a lawyer, everything changes for him. With the likes of characters such as Kim Wexler, Mike Ehrmantrout, Nacho Vargas, and especially Lalo Salamanca, the show is able to truly captivate the audience through such amusing personalities. Every character presents something different to the audience and makes the plot especially intriguing. The writers did a fantastic job with every element of the show, and I believe that Better Call Saul is truly one of the best shows of this generation.
Have you watched Better Call Saul?
I haven't watched Better Call Saul but have heard it is awesome! Since last year I have had friends such as Ayal recommending Breaking Bad and Better call Saul. I will get to it eventually and let you know what I think!
ReplyDeleteI too haven't watched Better Caul Saul. I also haven't seen Breaking Bad. Do you need to watch Breaking Bad before you watch Better Caul Saul, or is it pretty independent of the original series?
