Hudson Gray Week 7- The Terrible Season

The Terrible Season

Today I am going to be writing about the Indianapolis Colts, my favorite football team, because their season has been flipped upside down. From week 1, I could tell this colts team was really not great but I keep trying to convince myself they could be something good. From having one of the best offensive lines in the league they now have one of the worst. One of the crazy events of the season happened two weeks ago when our starting quarterback, Matt Ryan, was benched. Matt Ryan is a former MVP and a 4 time pro bowler so everyone expected him to have a good season. However, I forgot to mention that he is 37! His old age really showed during his seven starts this season with his lack of arm strength and absolutely no mobility at all. Although he did have his moments, everyone knew a change needed to be made. With the announcement of Ryan's benching, this meant 24 year old Sam Eglinger would be starting. Ehlinger was drafted in round six of the 2021 NFL draft. This is his second season and so before the past two weeks, he had no NFL experience. So far through two starts, he hasn’t looked terrible but he hasn't looked great either. Now, let me move on to the bigger news this week that all happened yesterday. After an atrocious loss to the patriots on sunday, Colts head coach, Frank Reich, was fired on monday. As a fan, I agreed with this change although it was still a shock to myself and others. He had been the Colts coach for 4 seasons and is a very well regarded coach, but after the season the colts are having a large change needed to be made. It wasn’t until six hours later that the Colts hired an interim head coach. Now this was a humongous shock to everyone. The Colts hired Jeff Saturday who was a former center for the Colts and is now an ESPN analyst. You may be thinking to yourself that that doesn't sound so terrible but when you look at his coaching experience and see almost nothing, your thoughts will change. I am not that upset with everything that has happened because I understand that this season can’t get much worse than it already is and has been. Do any of you watch or follow football?

  1. My favorite NFL team is the Miami Dolphins! Unfortunately after their starting quarterback's injury, it doesn't seem like they have a high chance at making the playoffs which really makes me upset because I love watching them so much.

  2. It seems that the team has been placing inexperienced people into important roles such as Head Coach and starting quarterback.
