House of the Dragon:
More than three years after the famous Game of Thrones television series went off the air, HBO released its much-anticipated prequel: House of the Dragon. Taking place two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon explores the world in which the current king, King Viserys struggles with finding himself an heir for his throne, the Iron Throne which gives its sitter control over the fictional world Westeros' seven kingdoms. For those who have not yet watched House of the Dragon, or even Game of Thrones for that matter, I won't go into any more detail so I don't spoil the show for you. However, I will speak to how sometimes controversial prequels stand up to their original series. Prequels, and even sequels, rarely live up to their original series. House of the Dragon was quite the contrary. Everything from the show's soundtrack, to the characters/actors, and the plot was as good or even better than the original series. I especially liked how the show's writers designed some characters to act like the original series characters. Although I won't say who, watch out for who acts like Cersei. I also thought what was interesting about the series was how almost every episode would move forward in time a few years, accelerating the progression of the story to fit within the nine-episode season. Lastly, like any great thriller, House of the Dragon had excellent cliffhangers. These cliffhangers coupled with jumps in time periods from episode to episode would implicitly show what happened after the previous episode and cut and explicitly show what were its after effects. I would highly recommend watching Game of Thrones before you view House of the Dragon, otherwise, your appreciation of the show will not be at its max. If you watched the show or watched its original series, what did you think of it?
