Funds, Please! Pt. 1 (Milo Week 6)
Dear friends and families of the DKJA community,
I'm writing this letter because I love theater. I love acting, singing, dancing - everything about it. Ever since I was young, I fell in love with becoming part of another world and sharing that magical fantasy with the audience.
At Donna Klein Jewish Academy, I was encouraged to explore acting and the world of theater, attending drama classes since I was in kindergarten. Growing up, being a part of theater inspired me to discover my passion for the arts further.
Recently, I've been more involved in our school's drama community. I started playing a minor role in my first show, Matilda, but quickly got more main parts, like Ronette in Little Shop of Horrors, last year’s musical production. I have loved every moment since I started participating in the school musicals. This year, we're performing Fiddler on the Roof, a show everyone loves, regardless of their religion. To produce this musical, our theater department requires more financial support to make it the best it can be. New mics and more rehearsal space are just a portion of what we need to elevate the quality of our shows.
Each year, when we prepare for our big musical, we ask the school board for new microphones. We only have about thirteen total, including those less functional than others. We've made do with these microphones for as long as we can, but it would be excellent to have better equipment to showcase the talent that's so prevalent on our stage. Based on my experience from last year's show, the only notes I got in my Kravis review were about how my microphone quality was terrible, and they wished they could've heard my voice louder. It's a shame to see all the lost potential simply because of our insubstantial equipment.
This is so true!!!!!! Mic quality would really help with the overall performance. I hope we get good mics this time.
ReplyDeleteWhat does the current theater and arts program budget allocated to? Is there a way to slim costs in the budget to open room to buy new microphones without having to raise more money?
ReplyDeleteI see where you're coming from and agree that the school should definitely do something about this. I know that recently the school had a fundraiser and made a lot of money so hopefully you guys will get your mics very soon!
ReplyDeleteThe microphones are a huge issue. I remember trying to help find new microphones for cheap. Unfortunately, the issue with cheap microphones includes concerns about compatibility with the Zinman Hall sound system and that cheap microphones break easily.
ReplyDeleteIt is disappointing that the microphones are so bad, and I hope that they can get replaced. I noticed that it was difficult to hear you at your last performance.
