Aaron Mibab 8: Apex Legends
For those who are my friends or have read my last blog post have probably heard me say “Apex Legends”. Apex Legends is a multiplayer video game released by EA and Respawn on February 4, 2019. The first time I heard of it was on its launch date when I saw a streamer who normally played Fortnite was playing this game. I watched a few minutes and dismissed the game as another attempt at the popular battle-royale format. For more than two years now, Apex Legends has been and continues to be my favorite Video game.
Although I love the game, it does have a few issues. I am well aware that the owner of Respawn (the developers) is Electronic Arts (EA). EA is notorious for being greedy regarding microtransactions and this holds up unfortunately in Apex. Apex has recently released virtual stickers with each being $3. Overwatch suffered a similar issue where a gun charm they released in-game cost $7 while on their website a real-life version cost $5. Unlike Overwatch, Apex legends has ways of gaining paid content without any cost to the user. Apex’s battle pass includes enough digital currency to purchase the next one, with some of this currency being in the free path. Thus, there have been players who have not spent any money but they have unlocked content that normally costs money.
Apex Legends has numerous reasons for my preferable status. Its game has arguably better lore than Overwatch. Apex Legends is part of the TitanFall universe where an event most comparable to the American Revolution occurs between the Frontier seeking independence from the core systems and IMC. Apex Legends takes place years after the Frontier wars and the games Titanfall I and Titanfall II. Apex Legends is a bloodsport put on for the enjoyment of the “outlands” funded by a mafia-like organization called the syndicate which controls the planets of the outlands. I could do a whole blog project on the +8-year in-the-making lore of the universe and 3-year apex legends game.
Apex legends has had its characters balanced consistently and its bugs fixed relatively quickly. What makes this feat more impressive is its commitment to respecting its employees which is very rare in this industry. Apex legends does not force its employees to experience the crunch time that other companies force in order to produce large amounts of content very quickly. Although this causes updates to come at slower times, this is ethically the right decision for the health of the staff creating this amazing game. In fact, soon the staff will have their 2-week vacation for the holidays.
Apex legends also does not suffer from an oversaturated character roster. Apex Legends has 23 playable characters in comparison to Overwatch 2’s 35 playable characters. To new players, both games’ number of characters could prove a bit overwhelming but Apex is a lot better in this regard.
The mechanics present in the game are very well polished leaving the movement of the game as one of its best features compared to other games available right now. Overall the experience in apex legends since I began playing in 2020 has left me consistently returning to play every season. I hope after I finish my homework tonight that I return to play! I recommend everyone who likes first-person shooters to give apex legends a try and write about your experience in the comments.
What are your thoughts on apex legends?
You are a pro Aaron. I know many other kids play this game and really enjoy it. I have never played before but definitely want to try. It seems very detailed and well thought out.
ReplyDeleteThis game seems really fun. I think I will look into playing it.
ReplyDeleteI'm still shocked by the price of in-game items. Besides that, it's great that Apex isn't pay-to-win or pay-to-play, and it's very lucky that we joined before they added all the new characters to learn about. I think it really increased our chances of liking the game.
