Johnys Week 5: Her Loss
Drake and 21 Savage, 2 of the world's most beloved artists have teamed up to release a surprise album titled “Her Loss” on October 28th, 2022; Halloween weekend. This is arguably the most exciting moment of the year for rap fans and the general music community. Every single time Drake and 21 Savage have come together to make a record, it’s been a hit. Rap fans have been absolutely loving this duo and the announcement of this collab project just a week before its release date has the world thrilled.
In the past decade, trap music has risen to dominate the Rap/Hip-hop scene, with its biggest artists constantly at the top of the billboard. Artists like Future, Travis Scott, Young Thug, Lil Baby, and 21 Savage are among the greats of the trap scene, and some of the world's most listened-to artists. However, it’s not frequent that we get a collab project among the stars. We’ve got a few, but there has only been one project that presented such an iconic time in music. That project was “What A Time To Be Alive” by Drake and Future. Just like the upcoming “Her Loss,” What a Time To Be Alive came out of nowhere. With a last-second announcement and barely any marketing, this project dropped out of the blue; this was very unusual for artists with so much caliber to their name. Regardless, this album was played absolutely everywhere. It’s considered to be the greatest collaboration project in rap history and is talked about to this day. “Her Loss” announcement is just as unexpected. Drake had just dropped his last album “Honesty, Nevermind” 4 months ago, and to release another album so soon is unusual timing for Drake as he typically waits at least 1-3 years before another project release. On top of this, a couple of days before the announcement, 21 Savage commented a cap emoji (meaning not true) under a post on Instagram that made a speculation that there was a collab album in the works with the two. This threw everyone off even more and made the announcement even more surprising. With 3 more days until the album officially releases, I'm extremely excited to see what the two have in store for the world with this project.
Will you be tuning into the album on Friday?
I probably won't tune in. Rap music isn't my favorite music genre. However, it is pretty cool that you are so interested in it!
ReplyDeleteI most definitely will tune in! I've been very excited about this album since I heard about its release and look forward to talking about it with you and what you thought of each track after it drops.
