The Music Pics Up: 

SAT/ACT Testing • Condor High School

Roughly three weeks ago, I took the "right of passage" Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT for short. This test is possibly one of the most important tests I will ever take, as it is the gauge for whether I can get into the elite schools that have been my goal since I was in middle school. The goal for my end SAT score is between a 1490 and 1550, something only a very small percentage of test takers are able to do, and a score that would confirm for me and my college counselor that these schools were achievable. I knew that this first test was not going to be the one, so I preemptively scheduled a second test for a month later, figuring I would get somewhere between a 1350 and 1400, meaning that a 100 to 150-point increase would be needed for me to be done. Going into the test, I had no idea what to expect. I was so nervous that I woke up multiple times the night before. The next morning, I woke up, ate breakfast, and then nervously paced around my house until it was time to leave. My test started around 8:40am, and I only finished around 1:00pm because I had no clue there was an extra 20-minute test section that does not count for your score. After the test, I rewarded myself with my traditional post-standardized test Chick-Fil-A and waited the grueling two weeks before I would receive my score. The day the scores came out, I refreshed College Board's website maybe a thousand times but my score still did not appear. This was making me so crazy that I gave myself a headache at the end of the day. Around 4:45pm, while I was playing tennis, I refreshed the website again, and low and behold, my score: a 1470. This was a huge surprise to me and my family and meant that just a 50-point increase would mean I would be done with college entrance exams. This also meant and confirmed that getting into an elite school was now very possible. The music in my figurative race to get into an elite school movie was picking up, and all the pieces are falling together.

    Wow that is so awesome that you are doing so well! I recently took my first ACT and did much better than I initially expected. I understand how it feels and am very glad that you are sharing a similar experience as me. I wish you luck on your next exam!

    Good job getting that score! I haven't done an official SAT or ACT yet, and am hopeful that it will go well when I do. It's great that you have a little tradition like going to Chick-Fil-A to reward yourself after taking these never-ending College Board tests.

    Wow Holden, I am amazed by your ability to do extremely well on the SAT standardized test. I plan on taking my first SAT on the 5th of November and I hope I can get a score such as yours!

     Some of you may be wondering why I am submitting this blog a day late… Did I forget? Am I just irresponsible? The true reason is that last night I had the honor of attending the Donna Klein Jewish Academy Open House. The Open House was truly an eye-opening experience, where I got to introduce myself and the amazing clubs our Rosenblatt Highschool has. I volunteered as a tour guide and helped set up and lead many of the club stands that attended.      The two main stands I promoted were the Jewish Student Union Club (JSU) and the Business Program. I personally know the presidents of both clubs, which made it easier for me to introduce the clubs to the upcoming parents and students of Rosenblatt Highschool. Aaron Mibab 3: Hazamir

Last year and this summer I had the privilege of participating in the Jewish teen choir named Hazamir. Hazamir is an international singing group, with its chapters primarily located in the United States and Israel. In order to participate in Hazamir, one must be able to sing but the ability to sight-read is not necessary. Its music and events have led me to a larger repertoire, increased understanding of music, and more friends. I am so excited to continue singing in Hazamir this year too! Despite Hazamir’s amazing offerings, the Boca Raton Chapter is too small and needs more numbers.  Hazamir has almost weekly meetings where participants practice and learn the provided music. These practices typically last 2 hours and are very casual and fun! Last year, I became very close to the other members of my chapter through the songs we learned. Aaron Mibab 6: Recycling at Donna Klein

     Ever since I was little, I remember my father taking out the recycling or doing activities relating to recycling. He would remove the tabs from coke cans and collect them; I remember he had a large bag or two where the metal tabs stayed. I also remember “helping” him take apart boxes so more could fit into the recycling bins. Recycling was important to him because it is taking care of the environment and world that his children will inherit. Due to his beliefs, I believe recycling is important to take care of the world that will one day be my responsibility.      Many of you reading this blog may think, “recycling at Donna Klein? Why would that be a topic?
