Aaron Mibab 5: Thor Love and Thunder
During the most recent break, I watched Thor Love and Thunder. I enjoyed the movie enough to prompt me to write about the movie.
I personally think that the funniest scenes of the movie involved the goats that Thor was awarded for “saving” a group of people. I found the goats’ entrance to the screen incredibly hilarious as Thor calls them “wonderful” meanwhile the goats’ hilarious screaming continues. Then Thor again comments on how “beautiful” they are. Korg’s response describing the goats as also “scream[ing] quite a lot” really added to the amusement I found. The two Goats are my favorite characters and I am glad that they reappear, especially during Thor’s interactions with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Thor’s interactions with the Guardians of the Galaxy occur naturally and seem continuous with their last appearance in Endgame. Their interactions prompt me and any audience to find situations these characters are faced with amusing. I most enjoyed the scene with the goats on the Guardians’ ship. The chaos displayed in the scene really continues the trend of the Guardians of the Galaxy being one of the funniest and least coordinated teams. As the goats exponentially add to the chaos and destruction, Drax, following his comedic role in most of his appearances, added a hilarious line where he describes that he loves “them” (the goats) and that “they should live with [the team] forever!”. As the team out of frustration discusses their distaste for the (still screaming) goats, Thor says “The goats are going to be fine. If not we can just use them for meat…”. The goats immediately become silent and stare at Thor as he quickly recovers by saying they will use the goats for “meat-ing people”.
As funny and entertaining as Thor Love and Thunder is, it also covers some very serious topics. This movie covers the topic of death quite frequently either through the presented issue for Jane foster, stage four cancer, or the threat to all the g-ds of the MCU. Thor Love and Thunder’s depiction of cancer is incredibly accurate -- except for the magic hammer with the ability to prevent cancer’s physical manifestations while providing magic powers and super strength to the wielder. The movie also reflects on the importance of loving others through its story involving the threat of death posed to the g-ds and in two other cases, the death of people important to main characters. The movie’s climax really pushes the importance of loving the people around you. Of course, the movie is lighthearted and filled with action such as the epic fight scene that preceded the emotional climax.
Thor Love and Thunder is an incredible movie and welcome addition to the roster of MCU movies. For those who have seen it, what are your thoughts on the movie, and do we share any perspectives?
I didn't even know they still made Thor movies. I need to see this for the goats now.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of surprising to see a good review about this movie. I have only heard bad things to be honest.
ReplyDeleteI didn't love the movie as much as some other people. I thought that it was made to be intentionally cringy and it definitely did not hold up to its predecessor Thor: Ragnarok.
ReplyDeleteAs you know I do not watch these type of movies but this seems interesting so I might have to watch it.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Marvel, but Ive been yet to watch the new Thor Movie. However I've been hearing many talk about it, and I can see that you absolutely loved it; ill most definitely be checking it out.
