Rebecca Week 3 - Rescue Animals
I have two dogs: Roco and Chelsea. Roco is a ten-year-old golden doodle with no understanding of the world. Chelsea is a rescue. We adopted her on November 10th, 2018, about four years ago. We were told that she was abandoned by her previous family with their two other dogs; they were left alone for about a week with limited food before being rescued. When we got her, she was extremely skinny, weighing about 60, 65 pounds; now, she is closer to 85 pounds.

There have been multiple instances where it's obvious Chels is a rescue and Roco is not. One example is leaving the house; Taco loves taking every chance to escape, and Chelsea absolutely despises leaving our house. She used to hide in my room whenever people visited, but now she is a little more comfortable with guests. She’ll tentatively come downstairs to say hello and possibly hang around afterward. In contrast, Roco will not leave other people alone unless they greet him back. Even after trying to get him to stop, he will jump up to people because he is so excited to say hello.
Chels is more aware that the world is dangerous and can have genuine consequences; Roco has just started to learn that he isn’t invincible. I believe that being together has helped both of them. Roco pushes Chelsea to be more social, and he is very protective of her.
After four years, Chelsea is definitely a much happier and healthier dog. We were able to find her favorite things (tennis balls) and understand her sources of stress. We don’t force her to go on walks because we’ve found she would much rather play fetch. We’ve accidentally thrown the tennis ball into the canal behind our house, and she actually swam to get it, yet she’s horrified by our pool. She definitely has some quirks, but she’s such a good dog.
Do you have a rescue animal, and if so, what’s their story?
Roco Taco and Chelsea are living their best life! Also super nice you rescued Chelsea. It sounds like Taco needs to chill out a little around other dogs.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, they're both so adorable!! I'm glad Rocco and Chels are besties.
ReplyDeleteMy dog Simba is definitely just like Roco. He tries to run out of the house any chance he gets and always wants to be outside.
ReplyDeleteYour dogs are so cute!! We have to get Bamba and your dogs to have a playdate.Similar to Holden's dog, Bamba is also pretty crazy and energetic like Roco.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a heart-warming story. I'm so glad Chels has you as an owner now. Both dogs are very cute, but Chels is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteWhy do they have to be so cute??? Dogs in general are just adorable, I have a weimerener myself and can't get enough of him, he's like a little brother to me.
