Joshua Grynbaum Week 3: The DKJA Eagles Disaster!

After a tough loss to Rosenblatt Highschool’s rival, Katz Yeshivah High, the Donna Klein Eagles were ready to fight their hardest for a spot in the playoffs, and another shot at beating Yeshivah. This last Monday was the Eagles' first game after their loss to Yeshivah and they were ready to give it their all, however, luck was not on their side. They initially planned to play Hebrew Academy all the way in Miami at 3:30 pm. That meant that the Eagles would have to have left campus at 2:00 pm in order to make it to the game on time and have enough time to warm up. They Were able to leave their campus at 2:00 on the dot but soon ran into traffic not even five minutes after their departure. The Eagles initially thought that there was just a minor accident along the road and that they would move along quickly and make their way to face off Hebrew Academy, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. With their luck, the holdup was actually because of a vehicle that contained explosives, which could have turned out very bad but luckily was taken care of. The downside to this was that it took them 30 minutes to escape the scene and make it onto the Turnpike.

After this whole ordeal, they are on the highway, still a good 45 minutes away from the school, and it's already 3:15 pm. They obviously understand that they are going to be at least a half hour late for the game, but this doesn’t stop their determination to destroy Hebrew Academy. The Eagles end up arriving at the field 45 minutes late to the game; after driving around in circles for 20 minutes trying to find where they were supposed to be; and are ready to dominate. The only thing standing in their way of victory was Hebrew Academy… or so they thought. Due to the Eagles’ tardy arrival, the referees decided to cut the game short to only two 15-minute halves. Although they were disappointed, the Eagles were still ready to play their hearts out! Unfortunately, the referees were in a grumpy mood and we’re doing horrible at their job. The Eagles’ head coach, Coach Ortiz, gave the referees a few words about how they should take their job more seriously because the Eagles are so passionate about what they do. There was a point when one of the referees was on their phone in the middle of a play, which is disrespectful to both the players and coaches. The Eagles, unfortunately, ended up losing with all these disadvantages, however, Coach Ortiz was able to discuss this incident with the league coordinator and was able to remove this game from the Eagles’ record, as it was the right thing to do. What do you think you would do in this situation, would you have just let the refs slack off during their job and taken the loss, or would you speak your heart and do what you could to make things right?

Comments

  1. This situation is unfortunate and I have experienced something similar to it but never to this extent. I would have been very angry but would have let my coach decide what is best for the team.

  2. That sounds very disappointing. It is unfortunate that the referees were not doing their jobs properly.
