Aaron Mibab 4: Universal Islands Of Adventure

This weekend through the Shabbaton I had the privilege of going to Universal Islands of Adventure. This is not my first time visiting this park, my first time in the park was when I was very young, visiting through the JCC summer camp. Despite visiting the park, I do not remember much, but I know I skipped many rides. Additionally, through research, I learned that more rides were added. Here are my thoughts on all the rides I have been on in Islands of Adventure.

Dr. Doom’s fearfall: This ride is like a free-fall and although I did not go on it during the most recent trip to Universal, I recall the experience as positive.

The Incredible Hulk Coaster: I was skeptical to ride this after my very negative experience on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (I was in the front and did not keep my head back). I know I did not ride this as a child. My experience this time was overall positive. During the ride I somehow lost my vision three times yet remained conscious. I did not leave as traumatized as I was during Rip Ride Rockit so I had a more positive experience.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man: I enjoyed this ride and understand (in my opinion) that it is targeted toward younger audiences. I enjoyed this ride as the last one during my trip.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster: I was skeptical to ride this after my negative experience with Rip ride Rocket and my partly negative experience on The Incredible Hulk Coaster. This ride goes faster than The Incredible Hulk Coaster adding to my concern; In reality, this ride was amazing! This is my all-time favorite ride in Universal! I had no issues and I walked off the ride smiling and in an amazing mood.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: This ride was a bit underwhelming compared to Spiderman in terms of physical effects. Spiderman had heat for the fire, water, and overall more physical effects. This ride included impressive visuals for a ride that does not need 3D glasses. I liked this less than the spiderman ride but I still would say that this ride was a positive experience.

Jurassic Park River Adventure: I remembered that I enjoyed this ride and it still is a good ride. Despite that, I sat in the front row and recalled that the front gets the wettest. So I asked the attendant and he denied it. After the ride (and being partly soaked), I looked at the attendant with resentment and called his lies. He gave a smug look. Later in the day, I rode it again. I enjoyed this ride a lot and the hilarious actions of the attendant added to my positive experience.

Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls: I enjoyed this ride a lot and thought it was very fun. It doesn’t really stick out to me as extremely memorable compared to the other rides.

Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges: I remember that as a child I did not enjoy this ride. This year my opinion changed. While I still don’t like how wet you get, riding this with my friends made the experience much more enjoyable. We rode it two times back to back. I am including a picture of me being upset and “looking like a wet cat” (my friends). The teasing and being with my friends changed my opinion of this ride.

What are your thoughts on the Shabbaton, Islands of Adventure, or the rides I listed?

  1. I would have to agree with your take on the new Jurassic World VelociCoaster. It too is my all time favorite Universal rollercoaster due to the the intensity and scenery of the ride! I also thought that the Shabbaton as a whole was very enjoyable and I had a great time! :)
