The Problem with “Newer” Marvel Projects
Since Avengers: Endgame, with the exception of some Marvel projects, newer MCU films and shows have not been as glorious as the original and notorious films. Films like the Eternals and Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness, though containing excellent CGI, do not have the same spark and storylines as films like Thor: Ragnarok and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. My biggest issue with these films is the constant mentioning and endless obsession with the events of Endgame. For example, Eternals mentions Thanos and the events of Endgame so many times it seems lazy that the film’s writers can’t come up with something new to talk about. I don’t mind a subtle mention of a character or event from another project, such as the one mention of Tony Stark technology in The Winter Soldier, but too many cross-references water down the storyline of the movie itself. As far as action, WandaVision, the MCU’s first television show, had some of the worst action sequences of any Marvel project, especially in the last episode. When White Vision is chucked into a standing RV home, the post-impact explosion seemed extremely exaggerated that the rest of the poorly animated action sequence seemed downright awful. Because of this, Marvel is starting to lose long-time viewers, such as myself, because the anticipation of further poor films and shows makes me not want to waste my time viewing them or trying to watch them. One of the only “newer” MCU projects I have really liked was Moon Knight, mostly because the show never mentioned anything that had happened in the cinematic universe. This, topped off with great CGI, an amazing storyline, and an interesting protagonist made the show, in my opinion, on par with some of the most popular original Marvel productions. In all honesty, would you rather watch one of the great original films, like Captain America: Civil War, or have to entertain watching Hawkeye, arguably a snoozefest.
I agree, Marvel has really been dropping the ball lately! The tv shows have been especially disappointing for me.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree. Ever since Age of Ultron, the movies have been going down a steady decline in plot and entertainment. WandaVision was the last time I liked something that Marvel made.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but I didn't find Moon Knight much better. It felt too dry and disconnected from a larger MCU plotline.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this, however a show after the release of Endgame that I very much enjoyed was Loki. This is no surprise since he is my favorite character. Even so, I would rather watch one of the original films.
