Eva Week 1- Who Needs Meat?
I'm a big veggie burger person. Very big. It’s been my favorite food since 7th grade. But when I say my favorite food is veggie burgers, that doesn't really count. There is so much variety and each type has a completely different flavor. So what are my top 10 favorite veggie burgers?
I would have to say my all-around favorite is the Dr. Praeger’s California Veggie Burger. When I picture a veggie burger in my head, that’s the one I’m thinking of. It is very veggie-oriented which is one of the reasons I love it so much, along with its consistency and great pairing with cheese. This is often what you might get when ordering a veggie burger from a restaurant (unless the burger is specifically a meat-pretender*). A slight downside is the excessive amount of unblended peas.
Next would be Amy’s Organic California Veggie Burger. This is definitely more of a mushroom and grain based burger. It is a great bridge between a veggie-based burger and a meat-pretender if you are a little apprehensive about taking the step towards full veggie flavor. After Amy’s comes Trader Joe’s Quinoa Cowboy Veggie Burger. I would say it is a better version of Dr. Praeger’s Black Bean Quinoa Veggie Burger, however, it is not vegan like most veggie burgers. It pairs well with some added avocado and is great when you are looking for something with a little more crunch. In fourth place is Trader Joe’s Vegetable Masala Burger. There is a slight sweet and tangy taste that really makes this a great burger. And finally, in fifth place is the Impossible Burger Patties. Meat-pretenders often rank lower for me as I feel veggie burgers should not try to replace a real burger but be its own unique meal. With that being said, Impossible burgers are extremely realistic and great option if you are in the mood for a classic burger but do not want to ruin the environment or your sodium levels.
Some honorary mentions go to Dr. Praeger’s Kale Veggie Burgers, Dr. Praeger’s Mushroom Risotto Veggie Burgers, Morningstar Farms Garden Veggie Burgers, and Gardein Chipotle Black Bean Burgers. My least favorite is the Beyond Burger.
We should also not forget about other great meatless non-burger meat products. My favorites include Ikea KORVMOJ Vegetable Hot Dogs (the best item, possibly my favorite product in this blog), Impossible Chicken Nuggets, Gardein Meatballs, Ikea HUVUDROLL Plant Balls, Ikea HUVUDROLL Vegetable Balls, and Trader Joe’s Korean Beefless Bulgogi.
I love discussing vegetarian food alternatives (if that was not already clear) and I am always open to trying new and unique vegetarian meals. I would love to know if anyone else has a fake meat item that I should try!

ReplyDeleteVery interesting take on meat pretending burgers. Personally, I have never had one but I might now! I heard there are also meat pretending hot dogs but I have never tried those either. Maybe you can and let me know how it is.
